Project Case Study
Fire-rated steel and wooden doorsets manufactured to customer-approved drawings for high-occupancy accommodation buildings serving Qatar’s FIFA World Cup 2022 stadium infrastructure — engineered and delivered under a compressed international construction programme.
Guangdong Qi’an Door Industry Co., Ltd. supplied fire-rated doorsets for accommodation buildings supporting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 stadium infrastructure, covering fire-rated steel doors and fire-rated wooden doors for different building applications.
Large international sporting events generate accommodation infrastructure to house project workers and event personnel — high-occupancy, dormitory-type buildings subject to fire safety requirements comparable to any large worker-housing development. Corridors serve as escape routes, and each unit door contributes to fire compartmentation. Given the project scale and the short programme, specifications for this building category weigh fire performance, manufactured durability and quality consistency at volume equally heavily.
Based on customer-approved drawings and detailed project specifications, Qi’an Door manufactured doorsets with customized dimensions, project-specified hardware preparation and fire-rated cores matched to the required rating. The project demonstrates Qi’an Door’s capability to manufacture and deliver fire-rated doorsets at volume against a fast-track international construction programme.

Accommodation buildings on an event infrastructure programme bring together high-occupancy residential blocks, service areas and technical zones — each with its own door performance and durability requirements. The project set out a combination of requirements that could not be met by standard catalog doors.
The project required verifiable fire resistance appropriate for high-occupancy accommodation, with certification traceable across production batches and across every door delivered.
Qi’an solution: Fire-rated doorsets were manufactured to UL 10C and NFPA 252 positive-pressure fire test requirements, with fire-resistant core filling and batch-level material traceability held through production. Fire-rated steel doors and fire-rated wooden doors were both supplied, with test evidence held for the SFD60 and WFD60 models.
Qatar’s extreme heat, sustained sunlight and airborne dust required doorsets with durable construction and corrosion resistance that would hold up over a long service life.
Qi’an solution: Steel grade selection and protective surface treatment were specified for the operating environment, with hardware compatibility checked against the approved schedule so that moving components remain serviceable in high-temperature, high-dust conditions.
Doors had to match the actual openings shown on the project drawings — including size, frame profile, opening direction and hardware configuration — rather than standard door sizes.
Qi’an solution: Every door frame and leaf was manufactured to the dimensions confirmed on the approved drawings, following CAD drawing review and technical confirmation, with frame profiles produced to suit each individual opening.
Strict deadlines, a large order volume and international shipping required production coordination that could hold programme dates without compromising fire-rated core consistency.
Qi’an solution: Production was scheduled against project milestones, with an inspection system applied at defined checkpoints and export packaging prepared in advance so that finished doorsets could ship directly to site.
Multi-party coordination across different languages and technical standards required accurate, traceable communication between the manufacturer, the project team and the site.
Qi’an solution: Qi’an Door provided technical communication support, drawing assistance and scheduled progress updates through the project, keeping drawing revisions and production releases aligned.
Finished doorsets had to arrive on site undamaged after long-distance sea freight, ready for installation without rework.
Qi’an solution: Door frames and door leaves were packed separately using protective film, corner protection and wooden pallets, with product identification, documentation and loading inspection carried out before shipment.
Through this international project, Qi’an Door provided customized fire-rated doorsets from technical coordination and production through to final delivery. The experience strengthened the company’s ability to support large-scale construction programmes with reliable manufacturing, flexible customization and professional project execution.
The project covered fire-rated doorsets in two material systems, manufactured for high-occupancy, high-frequency-use accommodation corridors and service areas.
| # | Door System | Construction | Fire Performance | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | Fire-Rated Steel Doors (SFD60) | Steel frame and steel-faced door leaf with fire-resistant core; single-leaf, double-leaf and glazed double-leaf configurations | 60 min, tested to UL 10C / NFPA 252 / CAN-ULC S104 / UL 10B 120 min variant available within the same system | Accommodation unit doors, corridor compartmentation and service areas |
| 02 | Fire-Rated Wooden Doors (WFD60) | Timber door leaf with fire-resistant core and steel or timber frame per approved drawings | 60 min, tested to NFPA 252 / UL 10C BS 476:1987 Part 20 & 22 test evidence also held | Accommodation unit doors and interior openings requiring a timber finish |
Steel fire doorsets were supplied for accommodation unit doors, corridor compartmentation and service areas. The steel door leaf combines a fire-resistant core — matched to the required 60-minute rating — with a steel facing suited to daily heavy use in a high-occupancy building.
The supplied range included plain single-leaf and double-leaf doors as well as double-leaf doors with glazed vision panels for corridors and staffed areas.
Timber fire doorsets were supplied for interior openings where a timber finish was required. Each door leaf carries a fire-resistant core, and the assembly maintains fire and smoke compartmentation for its rated duration, protecting escape routes along accommodation corridors.
Door dimensions, frame profiles and hardware preparation were produced to match the project’s confirmed drawings rather than fixed standard sizing.
Fire-rated doorsets were identified with fire-rated door identification plaques as required by the project.
Testing for this project was carried out by accredited third-party laboratories. The standards applied and the door systems they cover are set out below.

Qi’an Door implemented a structured manufacturing and quality control process across the whole production cycle — from material preparation and fabrication through to final inspection and export delivery — so that fire-rated performance and finish consistency held at volume.
Steel materials and fire-resistant components were selected according to project requirements to ensure structural stability, fire protection performance and long-term durability.
Based on approved project drawings and technical specifications, doorsets were manufactured to match the required dimensions, configurations and installation conditions.
Inspections were conducted at critical production stages to maintain consistent product quality across the batch.
Considering the requirements of overseas transportation, professional export packaging methods were applied to protect finished products during long-distance sea freight.
Beyond manufacturing, Qi’an Door provided engineering support throughout the project process:
